Sept 2018 Show and Tell

The Guild members were very busy over the summer partly caused by lots of indoor time as a result of the smoke from the wildfires. I had 5 pages of notes!
Following is a selection of the Show and Tell.
Karen wove this beautiful blanket of Monte Cristo cotton in 2 sections, measuring
at each inch of weave, rather than in doubleweave and chancing a warp thread
from the other side getting caught. She then sewed them together (photo below).

Cynthia used her stash for these tea towels. The beautiful knitted shawl
from
wool purchased at a trunk show required a lot of blocking.
Below, the wine, blue and white scarf was woven using merino wool.
Using silk dyed by Jen, Cynthia noted that it was very important to
watch the beat for the green woven scarf.

Karen B's Woven shawl in plaited twill with variegated
2/8 tencel warp on 8 harness loom.
Here is a closeup of the weave:

Stephanie was inspired by 8 step gradient hand dyeing to
create these dyed hands of yarn. She wove the tea towels
in a two block twill pattern on her new 8 shaft loom.

Bonnie won 1st Prize for her Tunisian crocheted shawl
in a lace weight silk and wool yarn.
.
.

Jen's silk scarves using various dye techniques. The tri-colour
scarf was 3 dye lots including using logwood and citric acid to lighten it.
Below are cotton shawls.

Jen eco dyed a white table cloth with Cochineal,
iron and other natural plants.

.
.
.
Barb P crocheted 8 very cute baby and children's
Owl hats in
various colours and sizes as
part of
the Owl challenge.
This crocheted shawl, full of beads was
crafted by Barb P.

Doreen knit block squared to create this lap blanket.

.
Karen G. knit the shawl and child's dress from her stash, the toque
is a Ravelry pattern ULJHAN, the blue bath scrubby (green tie)
using red Heart scrubby yarn and did some spinning as well.

May 2018 Show and Tell

Weaving:
In weaving we are always learning. Karen introduced us to the on-line courses by Jane Stafford Textiles. You will find her latest results in the fourth entry down.

Weaving may use unusual yarns. This one by Lynn uses possum yarn from New Zealand.
This is a large blanket woven by Lynn B from
NZ possum (navy) and merino wool.

Raelene participated in a Weave-a-long for these
Summer and Winter towels all from the same
 warp using 2/8 cotton
Shadow Weave shawl in #7 Bamboo

Karen B's samples produced from the Colour & Weave course

Karen took Jane Stafford's on-line  course "The Color & Weave Sample"  . Seven blocks are each woven with a different number of threads using the same treadle. An exploration of techniques and patterns.

Nell wove the checked tea towel and the Bronson weave
ivory curtain material for a sunny side window.

Above is Stephanie's "Hollywood" rug weaving notes for
4 shafts using a twill seed stitch weave structure.
Below, top is a Black Watch flannelet travel mat for her
granddaughter, then the two Hollywood rugs

Cynthia's cotton tea towels woven on a 4 harness loom

Michelle wove many scarves which she often gives away.
.
Maggie's Year of the Dog Challenge entry in purple,
green and red stage yarn woven on a rigid heddle loom

Knitting:
Sarita's knit cowl (L) and on the right Maureen W.

Barb P attended a Felting workshop in Cranbrook
and came home with the pretty turquoise hat. She knit the
sweater for her granddaughter and the socks for herself.
.
Karen G knit this Ravelry Gail Bunn hat, knit bottom up
with a neck warmer . She added the tassels as ties.

Not only was she weaving, Raelene knit this popular shawl
pattern for her Mother for Mother's Day using a cotton yarn.

Klaudia knit the white knee-hi Portuguese socks for a little girl.
and the baby set (sweater, diaper pants, socks, hat) which are
waiting  a few finishing touches. Also the red socks.

Patricia was stash busting,
knitting shawls sideways,
casting on 500 - 600 stitches
.

Karen B knit this popular shawl pattern
.
Eco Dyeing:
Eco dyed 22 in x 84 in silk scarves by Bonnie which are steamed for 2 hrs, then left rolled and tied for 5 days. L is from red onion skins, R is with Japanese maple

Adaptations:
Wendy's husband built this stand for her
tapestry frame to avoid back pain.

Apr 2018 Show and Tell

Jen's Calendar Challenge was also due this meeting. Check out the post for the inspiring results!

Sometimes at Show and Tell I have battery or camera issues or articles are put away too soon and I miss photographing them. More than once I have gone into peoples bags to find the items and take photos (with permission of course, lol). This time, I missed Randie's tea towels and her knitting. My show and Tell for most months is this Blog!

Below you will see two handmade donations to the Comfort Bin, by Karen and by Pat. Thank you! They will be much  appreciated by the future recipients.
Karen G crocheted this huge Norwegian flag
blanket for her husband
.

Barb L spun a hank of pure cashmere and received this
cashmere & silk hank B-day gift

Donna spun Corriedale Fleece and plyed
with silk and merino.
Ilse spun the yarn from a Vernon fleece source and
used her stash for the knitted variegated blue cowl.

spun at the Spinning Retreat and
knit a modified hounds tooth cowl.
From L to R, Marg H knit 2 prs of socks using superwash

and spun the

After weaving so many rugs for others, Gail made this 26 x 50 inch
rug for herself using a cotton warp and mostly sheets and some
t-shirts
cut into strips for the weft.

Ilona's "Curling Scarves" woven on a rigid heddle loom using
her stash of of mostly cotton and some linen. Notice the beads
in the fringes. She says the rigid heddle loom is easy to make
a warp and to weave if you are having back problems.
Maggie is learning to weave on a
borrowed rigid heddle loom. Here are
two table runners she wove. The
photo is of a scarf she knit
for a friend
Christy acid dyed merino and spun it
as worsted weight. The weaving is
only her 2nd. It started as a scarf
that transitioned into a table runner

Karen B wove these blue checked and repetitive pattern
stripes as a part of a Jane Stafford on-line workshop.
She really enjoyed the experience.
