May 2016 Show n Tell

This month, a theme has emerged of a favourite wool. It's Merino! It appears in the handspinning, weaving and knitting.

Spinning
For some background on handspinning, here are a couple of sites:
Mother Earth News or Wikipedia
Terry hand dyed and spun these hanks of yarn.
From L to R, an acid dye rainbow slub, a thick n thin slub of
natural dyes using
lockwood & maddock and a bulky boucle yarn.
The child's socks were knit by Ilse

Weaving
Ilse wove these linen & cotton placemats in a Clasp weave
and  spun a yellow & green silk/merino roving then plyed
with a yellow merino to achieve the yarn she wanted.

Karen B used a pattern from Handwoven in overshot weave
for this shawl using a 2/10 mercerized cotton warp and a tensil weft.
Check out the fringe she made on this shawl!
Nancy wove this beautiful shawl of sllk/wool and alpaca
for her Dad's 99th birthday! A very special gift to keep him warm
while sitting outside in the cool Edmonton weather.

Many members wove this Huck Guest Towel in 2/8 cotton
(
found in Weaver's Craft ) on the Guild's 4 harness floor loom
as shown in this lovely work by Marianne H.
She also knitted a
green and yellow shawl for our comfort bin
and spun yarn for the Summerland Gardens shawl.

MaryAnna made cushion covers from the swivel yardage
she wove in 2/8 cotton in a type of overshot weave.

Marg H knit the socks and wove a selection of tea towels
in M & O's, a Victoria pattern and a boucle.

Knitting - Lots of special gifts were knit for friends, relatives or out of kindness and love for strangers.

Alex knit these two at a time socks in silk & merino (L)
and merino sock yarn (R)
. Her
friends were delighted
with their gifts and happy
to model them!

This pretty airy scarf was knit by
Maggie as a birthday gift for a friend.

This silk and mohair triangular shawl
was crocheted by Greta

Both knit by Diane C.  She says the blue cable scarf is 'Goloring' by M K Nance in a  yarn from Black Trillium Fibres - a Gradient Kit in Pebble Sock merino in the Colorway Vapor. The brown sparkling shawl is the "Gossamer Shawlette" by Kristin Hansen. She used 3 balls of Rozetti Cotton Gold in Color 1093 (patterns are on Ravelry and the yarns online).

A lace shawl of 60% alpaca knit by Ilona and a hitchhiker scarf.

Barb P used Patons 'Lace' to knit the triangular scarf above and
Patons 'Decor' to crochet the Dbl/Queen sized afghan bedspread below.

Doreen M knit these  two triangular scarves in
superwash wool (L) and a wool/nylon blend (R)
